About BDEG

The British Dermatology Education Group was founded by senior Dermatology consultants from the UK as an independent platform to deliver Dermatology teaching and training at national and international levels. We believe learning is the process of acquiring new knowledge, skills, behaviours and more through experience, practice, or exercise. It is an active process that can involve collaboration, receiving and using feedback, and asking productive questions.

Members of the British Dermatology Education Group have been hosting this course annually each May/June since 2009. Initially this was a one-day course, packed with facts relevant to the SCE syllabus and exam.

However, feedback from delegates supported evolution to a 3-day course, with focus on learning through interactive questions. It is with great pride and humility that we have seen hundreds of successful and established consultant Dermatologists attend our course over those years as part of their career pathway.

This exam requires rigorous preparation. By hosting a three-day face-to-face course in May/June, it allows you to identify your knowledge gaps and provides you with a strategic study blueprint for SCE revision, preparing you for the exam in October. By coming together as a group for three days, you will realise that you are not alone, and contact with others will give you the opportunity to make new friends and study partners. We strongly encourage this as it will help you stay motivated for those weeks and months of revision.

The Dermatology consultants that teach and lecture on our course are experienced UK clinicians and have been teaching on this course since 2009. They are very familiar with the content and layout of the SCE exam, as well as being involved with a range of teaching and training initiatives across the UK for many years. Collectively they have national expertise and specialist knowledge of skin cancer, skin surgery, dermatopathology, dermoscopy, cosmetic dermatology, biologics and small molecules, contact dermatitis, paediatrics, hair and nails. All have been educational and clinical supervisors for UK Dermatology trainees and GPwERs in Dermatology. Dr Bower has also held academic positions at University of Exeter Medical School and for the British Association of Dermatologists.

Delegates will be taken through key points of a wide range of common and important skin disorders as set out in the UK syllabus of the Specialist Training Curriculum for Dermatology as published by the British Royal College of Physicians Training Board. This is a unique course that will provide you with revision and exam techniques, live practice Questions & Answers for discussion, as well as helping you master core Dermatology concepts.

The UK course is extremely popular and always heavily over-subscribed so book early to secure a place.

I created and continue to co-host the annual national SCE directed learning course since 2009.

I regularly teach nurses and doctors regionally to improve Dermatology clinical practice in primary care. For many years I managed and nurtured local GPs with an interest in Dermatology, mentored non-consultant Dermatologists wishing to accredit as consultants through the CESR route and mentored nurses wishing to attain improved skills or higher qualifications.
Reserve a place early as these courses have limited spaces and ARE routinely heavily over-subscribed
